STATEMENT
I have been living in Beijing as a freelance writer and translator from 1998 to 2003. From 1998 to 1999 I have written a mystery-novel, set in Beijing, which was firstly published in Germany in 2000 and finally also in China in 2003 [see info in the zip-file].

In August 2001 my wife and I moved within Beijing close to the old Lama Temple. Here, it became one of my favorite weekend-activities to take photos of "Old Beijing" (to be precise: of what was still left of it) as well as its residents.

I am afraid to say that there is not much red in the six pictures I would like to submit, however I think they are good shots and they are very typical for traditional Beijing, an area and its people who both may become part of the past soon. They are also an important part of my personal memory to the city, as they closely show as I HAVE SEEN IT.
